The board will report on all of the work they have been doing since we last met two weeks ago.

And we’re off!

And we’re off!

generalMeet-300x204There was a definite buzz of energy in the air as about thirty new and (only slightly) older members of the new phase of The Powell River Community Radio Society (operating CJMP 90.1 FM) got together on Oct 21, 2010 for the first general meeting with the new Board of the Society.

President Aron Strumecki and Vice-President Tony Colton chaired the meeting, with Treasurer Dolores de la Torre, Secretary Giovanni Spezzacatena and Director Douglas Enquist on hand to help out. The meeting was meant to introduce the new board, elected the week before at the Society’s AGM (view the minutes here). But most importantly, it was the first open conversation between members, to discuss the next steps.

One crucial aspect of the meeting was to set up working teams (aka ‘committees’) to work toward community involvement and liaison, increasing memberships and promotion, setting up policies and programming goals, solving on-going technical and location issues, and improving the Society’s finances through planning fund-raisers, and applying for relevant grants, etc.

The five working groups will be meeting throughout the week (see here for UPDATED meeting times/places), and will be temporarily chaired by one PRCRS director each, with new Chairpersons appointed at each of the meetings. The detailed goals of each working group will be discussed on the meeting day.

The working groups’ recommendations will then be made public at the second general meeting (you’re all invited to also bring a friend or two!) on November 5, 2010 at 5 PM at the PR Community Resource Centre (4752 Joyce Ave. Powell River).

See you there!
