Transition Times

Transition Times

It’s definitely transitiony out there. Cool, crisp, bracing November winds and a (somewhat) new local government in Powell River. At CJMP, of course, we also have an almost entirely new board of directors who are starting to find their place in the organization, and getting to know the out-going board and other members of the current expanded board of seven members elected at the November 10th Annual General Meeting.

Transition requires a lot of information being shared, usually with some helpful context and technical tutorials. It’s all part of increasing our community’s capacity to run PRCRS and to produce quality independent media. The new board members will be occupying their roles shortly to include: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Operations Director, Communications Director and Volunteer Engagement Director.

In the meantime, members of Powell River Community Radio Society are encouraged to renew our membership and commitment to non-profit, eclectic and representative community radio for the 2011-2012 year. If you have a cream-coloured membership card* (as opposed to the new blue one), your membership has expired and we’d love for you to renew it! It’s an easy thing to do:

Just visit one of our vending organizations (CMG Printing, Ecossentials, Kingfisher Used Books, or Creative Rift- all on Marine Avenue in Powell River, BC) and Magpie’s Diner (Rodmay Hotel, in Townsite) or drop by/mail in/drop off your cheque including your name, address, and email address to our studio at: 4476-C Marine Avenue, Powell River BC V8A 2K2 — call first if you want to visit inside– 604-485-0088), or email for more information.

Memberships are only $10/year and they make a lovely Christmas gift (they even come with their own card designed by Meghan Hildebrand!). Buy a fab new CJMP t-shirt while you’re at it and make it a tidy CJMP bundle.

Of course, you may also buy your membership online by clicking here. Or become a sustaining member of CJMP, by using your credit card, debit card, or PayPal account to maintain your membership for as little as $5 per month. Sustaining members in good standing do not need to renew their memberships–ever!

Lots of fun is in the works, with our new POM-POM-FUN team’s planning and plotting some fantastic events that you can help out with; their next meeting is this Thursday Nov. 24th at A Step Above (Quality Foods) at 5:30PM. Drop by and see what the fuss is all about— I hear jingle bells a-ringin’.

* If you purchased your membership after June 30, 2011 and still have a cream-coloured card, you are a paid up member until (but not including) the PRCRS 2012 Annual General Meeting.
