Prom Night Flashback

By Nola Poirier-

ON the windswept eve of February 12, CJMP held its inaugural Peoples’ Prom – a night of games, dancing, gender bending and pink champagne designed to motivate our members and friends to let their hair down – or backcomb it big – while we celebrated our community radio revival and created the party every prom should be.

The festivities included a romance inspiring Photo Booth, a much visited Hair Dos and Don’ts table, and the always popular Spin the Bottle, in which participants won raffle tickets they could enter into one of two draws: for Prom Queen or for Prom King.

At midnight we drew names and crowned our very own CJMP President, Aron Strumecki, as our lovely new Prom Queen and the truly lovely Kara Palangio as our Prom King. We look forward to having these new dignitaries perform ribbon cuttings and antennae raisings and, of course, lead our crew in next year’s Santa Claus parade.

Other highlights of the night included: the kick butt DJ’s “Hanging Chad” and Neil who had the dance floor packed from the time the doors opened until long after they were supposed to be closed, the brief but welcome attendance of astounding storyteller Ivan Coyote (see image below), and the generosity and talent of everyone (you know who you are) who helped out.

Only 362 sleeps until we do it all again next year, even bigger and better. And who knows… the next Prom King or Queen could be you.
