We’d like to send out special thanks and respect to Meghan Hildebrand, AKA DJ Poné!Poni!Pony!, who was the chief instigator & visionary of the event. And thank you to everyone else who volunteered behind the scenes or were there as DJs, bartenders, photo booth operators, and whatever else. Welcome to our 61 new members (we offered an honorary annual membership to everyone who showed up).
DJ Poné!Poni!Pony! sends a shout-out to all the community radio supporters that came out to celebrate at Cirque de Prom, and a special thanks to the CJMP team that helped pull off a great party. All the happy faces on the dance floor said it all.
We’ll do it again, so watch the skies…
Happy New Year to supporters of CJMP 90.1 FM!
Thanks to lots of support and hard work, we had a big year in 2017!
First and foremost, there was the move of our broadcast antenna to the TELUS tower on Gallagher Hill. Special thanks to Don Mitchinson, Roger Thorn, & Jason Leane for making this happen.
Do you remember our “Can you hear us now?” campaign on August 11th? We asked our listeners to tune in and give us a call from 12 noon to midnight. For every call received, TELUS donated to the Powell River Professional Fire Fighters Charitable Society. On October 24th, CJMP 90.1 FM and TELUS presented a donation in the value of $2,900 to the Powell River Professional Fire Fighters Charitable Society at the Fire Hall #1 in Powell River. The donation will be used to support the Fire Department in Powell River as well as their volunteer work. Thanks to our sponsorship coordinator, Leeanne Barr, for making this happen.
The Powell River Community Radio Society had its Annual General Meeting in November, where we reported on the past year’s activities & finances, and also held elections for a new board of directors. Don Mitchinson stepped down from the board after spearheading the antenna move, so we’re down to a smaller but still mighty board of directors consisting of President Jason Leane, VP Suzan Roos, Treasurer Roger Thorn, Secretary David Parkinson, & Orientation/Volunteer Coordinator Jennye Vishek.
Now, we’re planning ahead to 2018 and we hope you’ll be there with us!
Big news! CJMP 90.1 FM is bringing back The People’s Prom!! After not holding one in 2017 we realized we had to do this again, so plans are afoot for a fab dance party to blow away the winter blahs, probably sometime in early March. Stay tuned for updates and get ready for the prom you always wish you’d had.
Jennye and Trevor-Travis have been working to support a bunch of training programmers to start up new programs. If you’re interested in being on the airwaves, you can fill out an application here, or go to our contact page and select the option for “creating a new program”.
Remember: they’re your airwaves; use ’em! Remember to check our broadcast schedule, as it does change periodically.
CJMP 90.1 FM has a wide variety of local businesses sponsoring us. Thank you to Agius Builders, Base Camp Coffee, Culaccino, Capone’s Cellar, CMG Printing, Coastal Cookery, Costa del Sol, Frenchie’s Pressure Washing & Yardwork, Grassroots Botanicals Wellness Cooperative, Magpie’s Diner, Modern Windows, Paul Mercs Concerts, Powell River Peak and Top of the Hill Solutions! These sponsors help keep our rent paid and our lights on, so please support them and thank them for being friends of community radio. Or better yet, be just like them! If you want to know more about sponsoring us, contact our Sponsorship Coordinator Leeanne Barr by going to our contact page and select the option for “sponsoring CJMP or one of its programs”.
And the board is hosting our first meet-n-greet at Strikers Bowling Alley, February 7th, for CJMP volunteers.
As always, the PRCRS board of directors meet at 5:30 PM on the second Monday of every month at CJMP. The public is welcome to attend.
