CJMP News Director Carrie Swiggum was recently recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists with an award for her radio documentary, “Polka’s Not Dead” (linked here). Carrie undertook this work for KFAI Community Radio in Minneapolis, but actually completed the project amongst the hibernating bears in Lund last winter.
In addition to directing CJMP News content Carrie’s work has appeared in print media such as The Globe and Mail, The Tyee, Mental Floss, Utne Reader as well as on the air at the CBC.
This is not the first time Carrie’s excellence in journalism has been recognized. She also brought home a Canadian Online Publishing Award for a project she co-produced with CBC contributor Lisa Hale.
Carrie will be travelling to Minneapolis to receive the award later this month.
Way to go Carrie!
The Let’s Talk Trash team won an Honourable Mention at the National Campus and Community Radio Association awards ceremony last week!
They were one of over a hundred entries in the competition. “Let’s Talk Trash Medical Waste” was entered in the News category. We are all very proud. Thanks team!
Here’s Coco Hess’ “speech”:
“From the humble beginnings of Abby and I training with Zoe on the board and practicing vocals to the evolution of our radio script and the constant learnings on speech style, interviews, and technology, this show has certainly developed over the past two years. I am grateful for 33 shows under our belt and for the early recognition from the NCRA. What a treat and an honour to be a part of the CJMP radio community.”
